dharma_slut is having some serious financial problems. Not only does she have to move before the end of the month, she's also been hit with a 2,500 dollar power bill. The good news is, if she can pay half of that, she'll be able to keep the lights on for a bit longer.
As a result, she's trying to raise some money and has several different sorts of awesome items for sale. You can find her stores at the following links:

Probable Possible Personalised Ephemera and Calling Cards. Some very pretty designs.

Dragon Mother Wand Works Handmade wooden wands. Very pretty mixes of wood and metal.

Dendrophilia is her store for her handmade wooden linghams. Since these are adult toys, the site is probably not entirely work-safe, but it's definately worth a look.

If you can buy something, please do and boost the signal. If you can't buy anything, please boost the signal. Like Red Green says, we're all in this together.

The community [community profile] eid_ka_chand is running a sponsored fanfic-athon for the victims of the Pakistan floods. The way it works is that they've solicited donations per types of fanworks -- such as "X dollars/pounds/yen/stone coins from Yap for every fanwork submitted" -- and now they're looking for folks to create works to help raise as much money as possible. There's a breakdown here.

The requirements are thus: the work -- vid, fic, meta, fanart -- should focus on Muslim characters (the comm has an *extensive* list). They're also asking for fics to be over 1,000 words. Works are due by Sept. 11 so, yeah...short notice but it's for a good cause.

Two weeks ago, Erin Vaught went to Ball Memorial hospital in Muncie, Indiana because she was coughing up blood. Mrs. Vaught a transexual transitioning from male to female. She was accompanied to the hospital by her wife and son and was treated with disrespect and discrimination upon entering the hospital. Some 'highlights' and more information below the cut:

Warning: Descriptions of Transphobic Fail by Trained Medical Professionals )

Ball Memorial's Response to the issue. As pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] newsy891, this is likely a CYA statement that BMH will fall back on in court.

Good News: The protest for Saturday has been called off in light of the fact that Ball Memorial Hospital is taking steps to correct the problem. Specifically:

Ball Memorial Hospital (BMH) is engaging with Indiana Equality & Indiana Transgender Rights Advocacy Alliance to assist with review of BMH care policies, employee benefits, and diversity training. BMH is collaborating with both groups to develop a curriculum for employee LGBT awareness training to improve sexual orientation and gender identity awareness in BMH anti-discrimination training. This will include sensitivity to the sometimes special health care needs of people who are transgender. [Links added by me]
