Geocities announced that it was closing a couple months or so back, but today they've finally announced the official "You Don't Have To Go Home, But You Can't Stay Here" closing date: October 26, 2009

For more information: Geocities Closing FAQ You've got a couple options: download and save your files or upgrade to the new Yahoo Web Hosting.

Though, if you're looking for information on how to download and save your site, it amounts to "Right-click on your page, hit Save As, lather, rinse, repeat."

That's definitely one place that started out as a cute idea, only to be ToS'ed to death... I'm not surprised they went out of business. It was the beginning of the end when they started in with that obnoxious side-bar ad years and years ago, anyhow.

Yeah, I've got a couple Geocities sites that I need to save what's worth saving from. Otherwise, I'm not going to be too sad to see them go. LJ and DW work better for my needs now, though I need to find a place to host some pics.
