I did a dumb thing last night, let my temper get the better of me and popped off to a random spammer on AIM last night -- handle was cash4pantysurvey, btw -- which in turn caused said spammer to probably somewhat justifiably be offended and somewhat less justifiably to decide to flood my AIM window with chats using various usernames in an effort to make it impossible for me to use my current AIM id. Or at least to attempt to.

If I have to, I can switch AIM screennames. I've already got one I can use and I can easily create another one. But, the fact that I got a comment in this journal telling me that "lol, ur blog is retarded" (post deleted, user has since been banned; still have the notification of the post in my email) makes me think that these incidents are related. Because of this, I'm taking the following measures to lessen my dipshit intake as it is bad for my digestion.

As of this morning, I have set my LJ to:

• Screen comments from anonymous posters.
  
• Show a CAPTCHA (i.e. human test) for anonymous posters who might comment.
  
• Started tracking IP addresses for all commentors.
  

I'm also banning people from commenting who say stupid crap like "your blog is retarded." I already freakin' KNOW that. I wrote a 10+ essay outlining how Transformers DO IT for crying out loud.

I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, particularly for anonymous commentors. If things stay quiet, I'll consider turning stuff off, but honestly, I HAVE to deal with this kind of idiocy at work I won't do it at home.

I'm sorry to hear that, and to me anyway, it's just not fair. But if they have a problem it's their damn fault, not yours and they have no right to take their hurt feelings on you. Hell, this isn't even a flamer were talking about here, it's someone who as an over inflated ego that can't accept a honest comment for what it is, a comment. This person has an LJ name of Dobernala, and I would bet it was the same person who anonymously commented on your post. He/She did the same thing to me several months ago. Also, has linked to your journal "not" requesting that others spam you.

I guess it does this thing called "trouting" ... which is linking two random user names to each other by a bot.

Anyway, I know this was a few weeks ago, but I keep track of this creep on a semi-regular basis.

Also, if it's anything like what happened to me, it found your IM name through LJ... probably sent you a message right around when you made a new entry?

Yeah; 'course, other than a couple stupid posts, the whole thing has come to naught. I'm still on AIM under my 'dunmurderin' i.d. I haven't been bugged on LJ since I reported 'dunmurderisgay' for abuse. I've gotten trouted a couple times since then but that's about all.

If dobernala is bugging you, I highly recommend reporting them to LJ abuse.
