livelongnmarry is a fannish auction meant to help raise money to support marriage equality by raising money to help defend against attempts to destroy both existing and potential same-sex marriages in California. People are offering a wide variety of items: fanfics, fan art, cookies, knitted things, services such as recording fics, someone's even offering to write the winning bidder their own theme song. Think about it! Defend marriage equality AND have your own theme song, what could be cooler?
Except maybe your own fanfic written by yours truly?
Dunmurderin' 80s fanfic Auction -- I'm offering a fic written in GI Joe, Transformers or Jem and the Holograms (or a crossover between any combination of the three series).
Seriously, there's some wicked-cool stuff over there (the three fishes cell phone strap makes me go squee), go check it out! Bidding opens July 1st, but you can shop around now!
The way it works is, you make a donation to one of the charities listed on the
profile page, then post to the auction in question at
livelongnmarry with the amount you donated. It's being run on the honor system. You can also "buy it now" and win the auction immediately -- i.e. if the "Buy It Now" price is $25 and you bid $25 you win the auction.

Date: 2008-08-03 01:35 am (UTC)I saw the little news blurb about that elderly lesbian couple who got married as soon as they were permitted that they have pictured on the header of the site and cried for them. They've been together so long, which is amazing in itself, but to hang together through all the crap our culture has undoubtedly thrown at them over the decades. Beautiful.
And there are people out there who would deny them the opportunity to be recognized as a couple, just because they both got un-broken chromosomes. Jeesh. But when ranters get going, they denounce "gays" marrying, and seem to always make it clear - as even South Park noted - that they really intend to mean men... Is it because the ranters are generally men (or women who've been brain-washed by them?) who not-so-secretly find the idea of two women together hot?
Should I shut up before I randomly take you into a rant area?
It's just so awesome that you participated in that fundraiser. Good job!
