Playing devil's advocate because I'm ignorant of the reasons that this should be bothersome... could the depiction of female fans as being interested in independent titles be part of an attempt to make those female-fan characters interesting? Could it be well-intentioned, as a way to prevent a sexist "I only like superheroes because they're wearing spandex" portrayal?
