Welcome Post: Sunshine Challenge 2019:

I'm taking part in [community profile] sunshine_challenge and, toward that end, this is my first post: Prompt #1: Fannish Housecleaning:

Hello and welcome to my journal. It hasn't gotten a lot of use for the last decade or so but I'm trying to get back in the swing of fannish things.

This journal was, originally, my Livejournal which I created in order for me to post stories and stuff that I don't want appearing in my regular journal and stuff like that. My "regular journal" has since been deleted, I think. These days, I also have a blog over on Wordpress (link in the sidebar) where I mostly blog about my efforts in original fiction writing.

Here on DW, I'm hoping to get back into writing fanfics. I have an AO3 account that I have, for various reasons (including drifting away from fandom for over a decade), never actually posted a fic to. I'd like to change that.

I write mostly Transformers fanfic, set in my own home-brewed fan-universe that draws heavily on the original US cartoon from the 1980s, but also includes elements from G1 Transformers' sister shows GI Joe: Real American Hero, Jem and the Holograms, as well as the original 1980s comics for GI Joe and Transformers as well as any other shiny bits of canon I think might make a good fit. I've also written fics for GI Joe: Real American Hero, GI Joe: Sigma Six, Star Wars, Jem and the Holograms, and X-Men: Age of Apocalypse.

I've recently (as in the last couple months) finally gotten around to reading the IDW Transformers comics -- which has played a big part in rekindling my interest in Transformers and, from there, in writing fanfic again.

In terms of original fiction, I have three current universes: one about third-shift vampire hunters, one set in a world where a meteor strike started a nuclear war in 1983, and one set in a universe where superheros and their assorted tropes and cliches, are real.

My username comes from a quote from Starscream in the US Generation 2 Transformers comics (issue #7): He's telling me that once his new army is fully mobilized, my services will no longer be required. And given my past record of treachery, I doubt that means a pension and a sign that says 'Dunmurderin!' Something about the word 'dunmurderin' cracked me up.

Looking forward to meeting new folks and clearing out some of my mental cobwebs. Feel free to have a look about the place and drop a comment.

Friending Policy: Friend me, I'll likely friend you back.

Probably not going to post an update every time I work on the Common Cause rewrite, but I figured I'd make a quick post about how the first day went: so far, so good! I got off to a bit of a slow start but I'm most of the way through the first chapter now and am hoping to get Chapter One done tomorrow.

ETA: 7/2/19 @ 2312: I was originally thinking this would be more or less a simple case of retyping the story and making a few corrections here and there, expanding some things, etc. Today showed me that that is not the case.

When I first decided to re-tackle Common Cause, I went through it and took notes about stuff I wanted to change, places where I thought I'd need to add stuff, ideas I wanted to rework or to tighten up. I learned today that I missed a few ideas that I didn't realize at the time were important. And that was just in typing up the first two scenes and part of the third. Going to be really interesting to see where this trip ends up.

The draft of Common Cause I'm working from clocked in at 17,171 words. Today, I wrote 2,048 words, which means Common Cause is 11.93% finished!
